State Board of Dentistry
The New York State Board of Regents, on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Education, appoints a State Board for each licensed profession to advise and assist the Board of Regents and the State Education Department on matters of professional regulation.
Depending on the particular board, members of the State Boards advise on licensing requirements, licensing examinations and practice issues, and provide community outreach, as well as participate in licensure disciplinary and/or restoration and moral character proceedings.
The State Board of Dentistry is responsible for the professions for dental hygienists, dentists, and certified dental assistants. Under Education Law §6603, there is a minimum total membership of 18 with a minimum of 1 public member and a required membership of 13 licensed dentists, 3 licensed dental hygienists, and 1 licensed certified dental assistant.
